We're an indie game studio based in Upstate New York that specializes in developing charming strategy games that bring innovation to a crowded marketplace. Rather than walk a familiar road, we only develop games where we can comfortably say "nobody has seen anything like this before".

History

Company History

For five years, Little Red Dog Games (LRDG) has been creating fun and challenging games that subvert player expectations. Our first commercial game, Rogue State (2015), explored the delicate balance of running a country that is composed of multiple groups of people with competing interests, all framed from the perspective of a fictional Middle Eastern country rebuilding from a revolution. For us, the game was breakout success and we were primed to start work on our second commerical game, Deep Sixed (2018). The goal there was to develop an experience where players felt like authentic space engineers ā€“ learning how their spacecraft operates and applying that experience to solving complex issues that go way beyond pressing ā€˜Eā€™ to repair a core system or two. Rock, Paper, Shotgun described the game as "unlike any space sim they've ever played". PC Gamer discussed some of the emergent properties of gameplay that came with the interactions between the game's deep space predators and prey. A finalist at Portugal's IndieX, Deep Sixed was a slow-burn -- the kind of game that didn't get a lot of attention at launch but is now enjoying a much wider reception now that people have had a chance to see what makes it different.

Precipice

Precipice is our third commercial title: a minimalist one or two-player game where one of the core mechanics involves keeping your rival from "rage-quitting" or "flipping the table" if they are placed in an unrecoverable losing position. Taking inspiration from Chris Crawford's 1985 classic Balance of Power, and other Cold War themed games including Twilight Struggle, Precipice is a tense stand-off where aggressive gameplay can always be challenged by your rival, leading to potentially tense standoffs where either party can escalate the consequences for backing down. If things get too volatile, a player can send both nations hurtling towards nuclear war, resulting in a loss for both parties (and the planet). This doesn't make the game a playground for griefers, however -- far from it. It takes two people to escalate a conflict, and there's a lot of reasons why it may be in a player's interest to instead engage in careful quid-pro-quo diplomacy, clandestine behavior, misdirection and, at times, bluster and saber-rattling to accomplish their objectives. The nations of the world are pawns in "the great game", and are each represented as playful, low-poly characterizations of foreign leaders re-imagined as animals appropriate to their region. We are extremely proud of Precipice, our best game yet.
